Notes & Resources

Join Saltram Winemaker Shavaughn Wells at Barossa HQ on Wednesday 14th March & chat live online. 7.30pm (Adelaide time).

Shavaughn will be tasting the 2008 Mamre Brook Cabernet Sauvignon.

Mamre Brook

William Salter purchased land near Angaston, some 80 kilometres away from Adelaide and moved there with his family in 1844. He then built a simple, plain fronted, six roomed house and kitchen with no previous building experience, naming it Mamre Brook, after the biblical home of Abraham.

Mamre Brook is one of the most famous places in the Barossa Valley and the wines featuring the grand old Mamre Brook house on the label are among Australia's favourites. The wines stand proud as a tribute to their heritage at the heart of the Barossa with all fruit sourced exclusively from this great region.

Traditionally sourcing fruit from the north-eastern side of the Barossa Valley, Saltram also sources fruit from the cooler, high altitudes of Eden Valley. Whether it is a delicate Riesling or the exceptional Shiraz or Cabernet Sauvignon, the Mamre Brook wines are characterised by their warmth and generosity, rich and mouth filling in the more traditional sense.
